2 Fords hard at work...
Hey - Isn't that solitaire on Linda's screen?"Honey, on our aniversary next year, can we go to someplace besides a slot car race?" Amateur 27 main - Marcello, Wendell, & Rich. How come only the tall guys stand on boxes? Bill Vanderzeil has probably logged many more hours race directing then sleep. Somebody get him some coffee! They let webmasters away from their PC? Doug Shephard & Dan Ruddock chat. Ernie Mossetti, Chicky, & Mario S. from Germany help each other out in the pits. An unidentified racer dozes off while PA Watson thrashes. Canadian John Waller caught dozing off in the pits. I hope his Ungar is unplugged! Forest Watcher watches. Sonic Pinball - Phil Hackett hits the pinball game with Foamy coaching. A candidate for messiest pit? Naw - I'm sure I'll find worse! Gugu from Brazil makes a quick motor change for Eduardo. The NorCal Slot Car Raceway contingent grabs front row seats. Wendell Smith in the Amateur 27 Main The BP parts counter was packed with tons of cool slot car parts. Try not to drool on the counter! Whooooo could this be? Is it the notorious "Owl Chump"? I reaquented myself with Gugu of Red Fox from Brazil, whom I had met way back at the 1988 Nats in Seattle-
notice the box full of fresh motors perched procariously on the table edge...OWH "Mom", in usual graceful form, manages to bump Gugu's box full of open Gp 7 motors into the full trash can... Gugu was a pretty good sport about it and grabbed my camera to capture me in my humbling moment digging a couple grand worth of mills out of the trash.
There was plenty of pit action during the "Geezer" Qtr finals & Semis. Benny Justice helped out a geezer buddy. Beuf's renouned pit work results in a blur when trying to catch his hands at work. It always helps to have a monkey in the pits... Carlos Aloise's pit looks like a labratory. No lab animals were harmed (so far) during the course of the 2000 Nats. Gil Gunderson held out for the big show Sunday, and opted to pit for "geezer" racer buddy Tore Andersen. Jose Mario of B-52 from Brazil had a very nicely layed out pit with lots of cool gadgets. T.J. Albu's pit was simple but effective. I've got to get some of those lights. B-52 Choke, complete with fan. Another slightly less glamorous hand made choke. Tons of fun at airport security stations. The "spudger". If you plan on slinging glue - don't leave home without it. This one is made of a trowel and a piece of carpet. Stuart Koford was fast in the geezer Qtr Final, but missed the move-up by half a lap. Slot Car Bulletin publisher Paul Meiers raced in the Am 27 and the geezer race. "Hey Dan Ruddock - which way do you turn this dial to make it go slower?" "Tune For Maximum Smoke" - creedo displayed on the "Spin Doctor's" motor box. Lambs for the slaughter. Smoke 'em if you got 'em. Another embarrasing shot of a Canadian dozing off. Kevin Abe must have had too much of that "honey".
The Semi Pro Line-up Swofford & Benny - suckers for a great race. Apparently Tootsie Roll Pops are the official treat of the USRA Semi Pro race. And the semi Pro main begins! It wasn't long before there was action on the straight. On the heat break, Fred Hood showed off his stylish shorts. Benny was a jet... but he had more then his share of problems this race. Connie Aloise - drove careful to protect her lead. Connie, Bennie, Jason Marcello from Brazil had his share of problems in the main as well. Jason, Benny, Connie Hurricane Larry kept busy on the lead-on. Connie had a few trips to the pits... but it sure helps to have an "Ace" in the pits. Concours winner Jim Swoffors car.
